  1. Hi! Happy birthday. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and I think journaling with the intent to know me better would be a great thing for my health.

  2. Hi Dolly,

I am very close to retirement and I know that there’s a lot of myself I have hidden away over the years, for various reasons to do with other people. Now, though, I realize that I want to reclaim who I really am, or the person I thought I would be when I got to this point in my life. I have been journaling for many years but not for the purpose of self-awareness. It was more to vent, to get the negativity out of my mind and on the page so that it couldn’t sneak out and hurt others or myself. Now I need more than that, but have no idea how to go about writing for self-awareness, who I am, what I want, can I find myself, can I even get through all those layers I have put down over the years.

  3. Hi Dolly

I am a specialty instructor working with disadvantage students struggling to get on thier feet. I use journaling as a mainstream tool to help them help themselves. I am always looking for new material, new ideas and new approaches to journaling to help my students.

    PS Happy Birthday.

Remember the person who celebrates the most birthdays gets to live the longest.

    Sincerely yours

    Brian

  4. Happy upcoming birthday!! I hear the Beatles singing!!
I need any and all self awareness I can get. I’m a 50 yr old single, college student who works full-time. Some way, my life does not include a husband and children and that makes me awfully sad. Equally perplexing is how did I become the crazy cat lady??? My life is NOT what I always thought it would be, and that is not necessarily a good thing. Help me get in line.

    thank you.

  6. Ms. Garland,

First of all, I want to wish you az very happy birthday and a wonderful and prosperous year. Also, I want to thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge with those of us who journal on a daily basis.

When I received your first emasil and researched about Kaizen Jo
Journaling, I found that you and I shared very similar ideas about journaling.

I plan to write a bit more regarding those aspects of journaling that are so very beneficial to me for so many reasons. As I said,I journal daily and have been doing so for at let 10 years. It led me to recommend it to literally hundreds of eople as I volunteer for various foundations in an effort to help others and I could honestly say, I received hundreds of replies from those who I recomended journaling to. These replies were all positive and these people have joined those of us who journal on a daily basis.

To get to the contest, ironically, my birthday is also coming up on May 16th so I would be very please to win your book as my birthday gift.

The other main reason I feel that I would like to win it is because I have been on an extremely difficult journey for the past four years. First, I lost my parents who were the only family I have as I lost my only sibling many years ago.

On April 15th, 2011, I unfortunately took a very bad fall. The fall caused me to break my hip, also my femur (which is the largest bone in the entire body) broke completely in half. In addition my pelvic bone, lower back bone and kneecap was crushed.

I will be very brief as this difficult journey has spanned over a period of 3 years and has been very difficult for me as I only have an Unce ho is 80 years old in my family. I am blessed to have many wonderful friends who have been in my life for 25 years oir more. They do what they can to help but they work and have families and lead very busy lives. Unfortunately, I have spent a great deal of the 3 ears in and out of hospitals, many times in critical care due to blood infections and other

Unfortunately, I have spent a great deal of the 3 ears in and out of hospitals, many times in critical care due to blood infections, blood clots near my heart and in my lungs, and other very serious issues. I have been unable to walk at all on the leg and lay in a hospital bed even when I a at home. There is a great deal more involved and this is all because the night I fell I went to the ER and due to something that was done, I developed a serious fungal infection that went to my heart valves and they were unable to do surgery and I was in intensive care initially for 108 days. My benefits were wrongfully terminated and here I am today because they tell me the injury is to old.

Since I was able to find the very best doctor in this country as my primary physician and she has not given up on finding a surgeon. I just spent the last 4 months very sick again in the hopital but I kept my faith, remained positive and have been told that my sense of humor has remained just as good as ever.

Through all of this, my journals were always by my side, no matter where I was because the reasons that I keepva journal are so important to me.

For those of you who have read this, please know this, there is always hope. After three entire years in bed, my primary ohysician that in was lucky to have found never gave up and he found a surgeon who has agreed to do the surgery. I am hoping to us my experience to help others because there is a great deal more to what occurred over those three years.

Keep the faith always and know there realways people out there that will help. Things take time sometimes that we want instant results for. Remember there is always hope.

For ten years, the journals were my way of venting, writing my hopes, goals and dreams and I look forward to journaling daily.

Happy birthay Ms. Garland and thank you for making an impact on my life.

    Sincerly,

    Debbie

  8. I apologize for the “double comment” as the tablet sometimes has a mind of it’s own. Also, I apologize for the length of my comment but I hope it helps you ll to ralze I am living a true miracle, so never ever give up. Keepyour faith and hopes and dreams alived…miracles do happen. I wish everyone who reads it well and if you ever need an ncourging word, I have a lot of tem.

I wish everyone the very best thast life has to offer.

    Debbie (again….sorry)

  9. I am in a transitional phase of my life. One chapter is ending, and another is beginning. Not sure where I am headed, and journaling is something that will certainly keep me on track ..to see what is working and what is not. I’ve been afraid to face my inner self. It’s time.

  10. I have been looking for ways to jumpstart and re-energize my journaling practice, and this book may certainly help. I do a lot of journaling to reflect on my practice as a teacher and librarian, and awareness is certainly a topic of interest and something to keep in mind. Thus I think I can get some benefit from the book.

  11. I actually already bought the Journaling to Self-Awareness book :)

I’d love 365 Days of Journaling, but the real reason I’m commenting is just to wish you a happy birthday! May 6 is my mom’s birthday too!

  12. Paige,

That is so sweet. Happy Birthday to your mom too. Thanks, and good luck! If you win, I will send you the 365 Days of Journaling.

  13. Good luck. I think self-awareness is a kind of thing that can help most people because often we’ve forgotten who we are, or just need a bit of a kick.

  14. Deb,

I hear you! Those transitional phases often seem hard (I’m in one too) because everything is in-progress, and not finished. Good luck.

  15. Thanks Claire. Perhaps your life is not what you envisioned, but it is time to let go of the old vision and form a new vision. Good luck.
